How It All Started

We’re a couple from the Netherlands, and we’ve been together for four years now. From the outside, our hobbies might look a little old-fashioned – crocheting with yarn, baking cakes and bread, working with our hands, and creating things slowly. But for us, these so-called granny hobbies have been a part of our lives for much longer.

Both of us discovered crochet, baking, and creative hobbies as a way to unwind. In a busy world full of screens, deadlines, and noise, these activities give us something incredibly valuable: rest. The repetitive motion of crochet hooks, the smell of something baking in the oven, the focus it takes to follow a pattern or recipe – it all helps our minds slow down.

These hobbies are not about perfection. They’re about creativity, comfort, and enjoying the process. Sometimes things go wrong, stitches are dropped, or a cake doesn’t rise. And that’s okay. That’s part of the charm of handmade, homemade, and slow living.

Why We Started This Blog

For a long time, these hobbies were just ours. Something we did on the couch in the evening or on a quiet weekend at home. But over time, we started noticing how many people are looking for the same things:
calm, creative outlets, and hobbies that don’t require constant pressure to perform.

Starting Not Your Dutch Granny wasn’t a quick decision. Sharing something personal like this online is exciting, but also a little scary. After a lot of thinking (and overthinking), we decided to take the leap and create a place where we can share our love for crochet, baking, and other cozy granny-style hobbies.

This blog is meant to be a space full of:
